Israel: Accessibility Without Borders - Emergency Home Adaptation
This award-winning project provides rapid, professional home accessibility solutions for soldiers and civilians wounded during the "Swords of Iron" war.
Following the events of October 7th, EWB-IL launched this emergency initiative to support the return of injured individuals to their homes. The core mission is to provide immediate, primary accessibility installations in private homes such as ramps, grab bars in bathrooms, and stair railings—to ease the transition from rehabilitation centers back home. This intervention reduces the burden on the healthcare system and ensures that the wounded can maintain their dignity and independence during their recovery.
The project relies on a massive network of professional volunteers who work in close coordination with medical rehabilitation centers (like Beit Levinstein) and Israeli Social Services. Beyond technical adjustments, EWB-IL’s teams often develop assistive technologies.
Recognized with the President’s Award for Volunteering, this project now serves as a blueprint for a sustainable, community-embedded model that can be replicated globally.
