Ghana: Empowering Communities through AssistiveAppTech

This initiative focuses on improving quality of life for persons with disabilities in Winneba by promoting social inclusion, accessibility, and economic independence.

In Ghana, persons with disabilities (PWDs) often face significant systemic barriers to mobility, education, and employment due to underdeveloped infrastructure and social stigma. Our project utilizes a Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) model, which integrates health, education, and vocational training through locally driven solutions. By leveraging Appropriate AssistiveAppTech, we co-create devices with end-users using locally available and recycled materials, ensuring that solutions are affordable, sustainable, and perfectly suited for the local environment.

The project operates in multiple phases, beginning with participatory community mapping to identify specific needs, followed by the development of tailored technological solutions like digital mapping tools and customized mobility aids. We emphasize capacity building, training local professionals, caregivers, and university students to maintain and scale these interventions independently. Our key partners include CBR Ghana, and both Israeli and Ghanaian academic institutions, all working together to create a more inclusive society through systemic change.
