The Ethiopia initiative started as a project to install simple homemade water pumps at schools and public buildings in the village of Meskele Kristos in Ethiopia. The system was installed in 2015 and has managed to deliver 25 cubic litres of water a year to the local school.
Later on, the locals were also happy to accept the help of the team in developing a new cooking method that is less polluting than the traditional fires they are used to. The projects are currently on hold due to political instability in the region.
This project has been one of the oldest projects of EWB-IL, mainly centred around Renewable Energy, both in practice and in theory.
The team at the Technion develops and builds simple wind turbines, made from materials easy to obtain, and installs them for communities in need of electrical energy.
In addition to installing the turbines, the project delivers education in said communities on clean renewable energy.
